Fjellmedisinkurs

Okay then, having recovered from the shock of the peanut butter incident last week, I was off to Ustaoset last Friday for a weekend course in mountain medicine, held by the Norwegian Society of Mountain Medicine (NFS).

I went there as a sort of delegate from out local Red Cross alon with two others, but I also had friends from the NTNUI Ski og Fjellsport group who attended the course.

The course is a one-and-a-half day thing built up of many short lectures and practical workshops and demonstrations outdoors. Subjects covered were, among other things, history, equipment, stabilisation and evacuation, hypothermia, frost bite, altitude sickness, avalanche medicine, allergies, medication, fractures and luxations, bleeding, heat preservation, and other bits and bobs.

All in all, a smashing good course, and I would recommend anyone Norwegian speaking who enjoys spending time outdoors to take this course next year.

Most of the time it was so interesting that I forgot to take pictures, even though I had my little compact in my pocket all the time, but did snap a couple here and there.

Cinnamon spice

Drinking tea, eating crackers, and watching Closer. Realising Jude Laws in suits are devious things.

On other notes, my bike was stolen last week. Then found again yesterday. I went to pick it up, but the thieves had dismantled all the bikes they'd stolen and stashed all the wheels together and all the seats together, and all the frames. The frame was marked with my contact information, but I had to look through a big pile of wheels until I found a couple that might be mine. Let's hope so. Seat I found easily. Bloody thieves.

Need to put all the pieces together next. Or pay someone to do it.

Climb now, work later

I bought me new climbing shoes, hurray! LaSportiva Jeckyl, and now they're hanging easily accessible on the wall with the rest of my gear and a couple of umbrellas.

I tried them out yesterday, and they certainly need some time and wearing before they're comfortable. I lost my big toe nail once due to too small climbing shoes, and these are maybe on the border of the toe nails off-threshold. Also, the soles are still rather stiff, so smearing was difficult. But all in all, I like them!

x3

Three pieces of randoness from the week past.

1.
Went to a pin up/rockabilly/people-turning-30 party last weekend and came home with my pantyhose looking like this. Ripped up thorougly. It had been a good night for dancing.

2.
Sold my giant Exped Downmat 7 LW and bought the Downmat UL 7 M instead. No more bad conciousness about taking up too much space in tents, and approx 500 grams less to carry. Yay.

 3.
Finally wore out my climbing shoes (a hole in the toe at least. Makes them uncomfortable enough). They never really fitted my feet well anyway, and now I get to buy a new pair. Also, this means I've been climbing more. Good stuff.

3 and 1/2.
Listening to Major Lazer.

Ura

Went on a wee one-night camping trip to Trollheimen last week. It was a good little tour, despite that it did nothing but rain and fog on the way down, and partially so on the way up. And I got to try out my little Big Agnes tent, which so far has only been tested in the garden. It kept all the rain out, but unfortunately the construction is so that the inner tent gets wet if it's raining when you're taking it down - as it did. Otherwise excellent little thing.

That peak there, the highest one, I've been there. Was there in april. I think it was that one...

Snug as a bug in a rug!

 And the next morning....:

As I have done before, I found myself in the mountains. There I was, Myrull (cottongrass), popping out of the green and browns. Though I've rarely found myself this wet on a hike before....

Lastly, I quickly discovered that I had chosen the wrong shoes for the trip. Even with nylon socks and preventive compeed, I still ended up with massive blisters, on both feet. They're ok now.

Big A

My bedroom of late. I keep moving it around the garden every three days or so so as not to ruin the lawn.

It rained and rained and rained last night. The drumming on the tent roof, which was so wonderful to begin with, kind of got really annoying at around 4 o'clock in the morning. Also, crawling out of sleeping bag and out into rain in only my jammies is not quite my cup of tea. My cup of tea was waiting for me in my kitchen however. Or the actual cup at least. I think I'll make a little post about My cup of tea later.

I'm very pleased with my new little tent that I bought in the States over Easter. It's a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2. There's one drawback to it however, and that is that the door inclines so far back that when it has been or is raining it drips or rains into the inner tent, and, if sleeping in a down sleepingbag, as I sometimes do, this would be very bad indeed. Other than that, it's brilliant.
